Experimental
The idea
There is a long tradition in hifz circles of falling asleep to the Quran. Sleep Mode formalizes that practice with modern audio tools.
Before bed, tap Sleep Mode. The app:
- Plays your current review queue at low volume.
- Blends it with an ambient soundscape of your choice (ocean, rain, forest, night, wind, stream, fire).
- Fades out gradually.
- Stops automatically after the duration you pick (30 min, 60 min, 90 min, until morning).
Is it “subconscious learning”?
We want to be honest. Research on sleep-based learning (“hypnopaedia”) is limited and mixed. Sleep Mode is not a replacement for active review. Think of it as gentle reinforcement and spiritual companionship during rest — not a magic shortcut.
What the evidence supports
- Listening to material just before sleep can aid memory consolidation during sleep’s early cycles.
- Familiar audio at low volume during sleep generally does not disturb sleep quality.
- Re-exposure to recently learned material during light sleep may help consolidation (Rasch & Born, 2013).
What the evidence does not support
- Learning brand-new verses purely by playing audio while asleep.
- Replacing active memorization with passive listening.
Controls
- Volume — dedicated, separate from system volume.
- Auto-fade — ramps down over 15 min by default.
- Ambient mix — choose from 7 soundscapes.
- Morning summary — a gentle report of what played, so you can prioritize active review.
Scholarly context
We consulted our Scholar Panel on the appropriateness of ambient Quran playback during sleep. Consensus: permissible as long as:
- The Quran is treated with respect (no background in unsuitable settings).
- The listener maintains active, intentional recitation and study during waking hours.
- Sleep Mode is not treated as a religious obligation or substitute for real memorization.
Privacy
Sleep Mode runs locally. No audio is uploaded. Your morning summary is generated on-device.
